Percy Pilcher Monument Open for Business!

Access to Percy Pilcher Monument
I am pleased to advise you that after almost three years there is now access for people to visit the Percy Pilcher Monument.
The present owners of the property, which used to comprise the Austin Lodge Golf Course Clubhouse, have been extremely helpful and moved the Monument a short distance from its original site to an area which maintains the privacy of their property.
The Monument has been enclosed and can be reached by a fenced path running from the Right of Way to the east of the old clubhouse. The Right of Way commences south of Upper Austin Lodge.
I visited the Monument a short while ago. The fenced path is very straight but is steep and about a quarter of a mile long. I would say it is not suitable for someone with walking difficulties and it could be worth taking some secateurs to combat any foliage which spreads across the path. When you reach the Monument the view back across the valley is spectacular.
The display/information board has still to be moved and I will look to place a notice board on the Right of Way directing people to the Monument.
Thank you to the present owners who managed to move the Monument without breaking it up and the new location is in the area from where Percy Pilcher would have flown.
