Volunteers needed for Befriending
28th September 2017
Keen to do something worthwhile in your community? Looking for voluntary opportunities that directly benefit local people? The SMILES project connects lonely and isolated older people with volunteers for weekly befriending sessions.
The importance of maintaining connections to our community as we age is well known - and proven to boost emotional well-being. Older people who feel they would benefit from an hour or so of friendly conversation every week can refer themselves to the service. Referrals can also be made by friends, family, GPs, other medical professionals or statutory bodies.
All of our volunteers are thoroughly checked and referenced, and undertake our training process. We offer full and on-going support for the service - to both volunteers and the person they're befriending.
